Yacht sanitization: common questions
Why should the systems on a yacht be sanitized?
Air-conditioning, water and galley extraction systems work in humid, intermittent conditions with long periods of inactivity. Dust, biofilm, grease and sediment can build up where the crew cannot see them. Periodic cleaning and sanitization protect guests and crew, keep systems efficient and give the captain documentation of what was done.
How often should a yacht be sanitized?
It depends on how the yacht is used. Many captains plan a full check before the season, after a refit or yard period and after long lay-ups, with lighter interventions between charters. After the first survey we suggest a maintenance plan based on the systems, the usage and what we found.
Can you work while the yacht is in marina or at the yard?
Yes. Most interventions are carried out at berth, in marina or at the yard, with our mobile units on the quay or on deck. Work is planned with the captain and chief engineer around guests, crew and yard activities, with interiors protected.
Does sanitization eliminate Legionella for good?
No treatment can guarantee zero risk forever. Remediation reduces the contamination found in the system; follow-up sampling verifies the result, and a prevention plan (flushing, temperatures, periodic checks) keeps the risk under control over time.
Do we receive documentation at the end?
Yes. Every job ends with a technical report: areas inspected and treated, photos before and after, readings where taken, laboratory certificates where sampling was done, and recommendations for the next check.
Where do you operate?
Across the main Mediterranean yachting hubs in Italy, Monaco and Spain — Liguria, Tuscany, Sardinia, Campania, Sicily, the Côte d’Azur and the Balearics — and in other ports on request.
